Videos on Instagram

Instagram has long been the place to go for visual communication. Dealing exclusively in photos, Instagram has carved out a niche for itself. However, the popular website is now expanding its communication by adding a video feature to its site. It is very easy to add the video service to your Instagram. You simply have to install the update to your phone. Once this is done an icon will show up on your screen.
It’s a lot like the popular Vine videos, the video is very short; only 15 seconds long. All you have to do is click on the Instagram video icon to launch the recording mode. You have your 15 seconds, more than double what a Vine is, and BOOM, you have video on your Instagram. If you don’t like the video, you can always delete it by clicking on the X button and then the trash button. Then you can do it all over again until you get it right.
There are different filters that you can use for videos like you would with photos. There is a total of 13 filters specifically for video to choose from so you can be sure that your video is just right. Of course these filters are all artistic and beautiful. They will probably make you look a lot more creative than you really are, but no one needs to know that. Unfortunately you cannot upload previously recorded videos, so you have to get out there and be creative and capture your life as it happens.
Similar to Youtube, you can choose a frame to represent your video. They call this your “Cover Frame.” Choosing the right one to represent your clip is important if you want to attract the right audience. By attracting your target audience you will draw in more followers and have a more popular page. This is especially important for businesses and organizations who really rely on sites like Instagram for advertising purposes. If they are going to add videos to their advertising, reaching the target audience is key to driving more business.
Really the addition will not be all that strange. With Vines being such a huge hit right now, it was only a matter of time. For many these 15 second videos are more like “moving pictures” than they are really like videos. Think about those moving pictures from the Harry Potter movies.
Instagram says that this is just another way to tell the story of your life. That is what Instagram is all about; visually telling your story to the world. A lot that can be done in 15 seconds. With over double the time given for a Vine, we may see a lot of creativity come out of Instagram videos. Instagrammers are creative to begin with, using the sites many filters to enhance their photos and show off their artistic side. With a new medium, it should be exciting to see what they are capable of.
